GTA SA: Yay Ka Boom Boom doesn't unlock desert?

I bought Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas about a week or two ago, and I finished the "Yay Ka Boom Boom" mission just a few minutes from now.

Afterwards, I got a phone call from the "Unknown Caller", asking me to meet him at "the countryside".
At first I thought he meant Mount Chiliad, so I took a tugboat and drove across the ocean to meet him.

Almost immediately I got a 5 star wanted level. At first I thought "ARG IT WASN'T MY FERRET" - then "Wait, am I going into the desert?", and finally, "Why did they send me into a restricted area of the game?" - The wanted level dropped to 4 stars quickly, the default level for crossing restricted borders (I'd know), and I crash landed the boat onto the highway. I stole a car and went to the nearby mission checkpoint, dozens of cop cars ramming me.

As soon as the cutscene ended and I was in the Monster Truck, they STILL kept ramming me off of cliffs and trying to make the truck explode from gunfire.

At first I did something wrong, so I looked online for a tutorial, and found out the guy did it the same way I did without getting a wanted level.

I did a little more research and found out "...the mission Yay Ka Boom Boom, when completed, allows the player to traverse the desert without getting a wanted level".

This, however, didn't work for me...

I have the "Driving School" and Zero's "no man's land" missions left - is that the problem, or this is a bug?
Thanks, dragon. I think that's it - On the way there I drove by the airstrip.

I'll try using the bridge next; if that doesn't work, I'll make an extra reply.
