Groundhog Day - Modern classic

Classic movie.

It's essentially a sci-fi premise that has been done many times on shows like Star Trek. Characters stuck in some sort of loop, having to repeat the same events and trying to get out of it.

I also think there is a very powerful and moving scene in the middle...not long after Murray has been having lots of fun with his situation, and believing he is virtually a god. He meets the old man starving on the street and tries to help him, give him food etc.

But the old man always dies, no matter what he does.

It's a slightly jarring moment in the middle of what is basically a comedy, but this is where I maintain it is a serious sci-fi concept that has been adapted for a comedy movie. Those are issues you have to address, and they cannot be ignored.
 
I heard that Murray and Ramis argued over the tone of the movie. Murray wanted it deeper and Ramis wanted it to be more comedic.
IMO the message of the film is if you embrace every day, help people etc, you will be happy and get life's rewarRAB, which is exactly what Phil does to escape from his Grounhog Day loop and monotonous life.
 
was it meant to be 10 years?

i think i counted from wot i could about 50 repeats of the day but i guess they couldnt show all of them

i absolutely love that film it never bores me and i always find new and funny things to laugh at


bill murray brilliant and very underrated
 
im a big murray fan, only films havent seen are meatballs, life aquatic and broken flowers. le plays lovable idiots well but prefer him when he plays misanthropic men like in GD and Quick Change
