Groundhog Day ITV 3

I must have seen this film over 20 times, but I am compelled to watch it whenever it's on tv. I adore it!

So pleased to have found in on an otherwise dull Friday night.

Anyone else watching this classic gem?

I normally do watch the Friday night films on ITV3 and watched a bit of the start of Groundhog Day but I turned over - not the best of films lol. Each to their own, though :) Enjoy the rest of it!

I'm with you Mouldydc, this will always be in my top ten movies. A classic and like Groundhog Day, I too could watch it again and again. Sometimes, I get frustrated that it has to finish...now, that is weird!! You carry on enjoying a truly wonderful movie.

Watching it now, the more I see it the more less like a comedy it is, it's actually quite depressing in parts, the amount of times he kills (or tries to) himself.

Fabulous film, one of my favourites. It reminRAB me of the old 50s romcoms, it has a really nice vibe to it, with just the right ammount of dark undertones. Fav parts are when Murray is explaining to McDowell about his situation "I've been shot, stabbed, hung, drowned, crushed, electrocuted... I am a God" :D and where he starts changing and is trying to keep Pops alive, the old vagrant. Makes me blub everytime!
The directors commentary is very good too, Ramis says that Murray's character has been living the same day over and over for 1000s of years! Lmao, poor guy.

It's actually a sci-fi conceit, been done to death on all of the various incarnations of Star Trek over the last 30 years or so.

The concept of reliving the same day, repeating the same events caught in a loop etc - pure sci fi.

But to exploit the comedic possibilities was a great idea, and for me it worked beautifully.

And it works because it actually addresses the realities and seriousness of the concept - yes, there are laugh out loud moments but also moments of great pathos.

The idea of Murray's character believing himself to be a god (understandable given the characters situation) is fascinating - and I have to confess to a lump in the throat moment when he decides to try and help the tramp...and realises he cannot stop him from dying.

Marvellous, classic movie. Just watched it on DVD, and I still never want it to end.

Pity about the extras on the "Collector's Edition" DVD. The documentary is a Bill-free zone, and the rest of the cast and crew almost speak about him as if he's dead!

Still, great to see it after all these years, and lovely that it still has it's magic intact.
