Grooming tipping question?

So I brought my Yorkie to get groomed for the first time. He's fur was matted to the max so he had to been shaven. And lets just say hes not the easiest, he snaps if you hurt him the wrong way, and hates water. And the groomer did tell me he was acting up because he was scared of the noise and what not.
So at the end when I came to pick him up the whole thing came to $30 which is a special price for new customers(Regular price is $40 I think), and I ended up tipping her $10 because of how he acted, then my bf looked at me like I was crazy for giving her $10, he said I should have at least given her $4 or $5. Was that crazy of me? How much should I tip groomers?

What you did was right. Groomers don't like dealing with difficult dogs. It is a headache and a lot of groomers won't groom a dog if they bite, so by tipping you might have gained favor with the groomer and she might want to continue to groom your dog.

Boys, owing to their complete lack of compassion (sorry to all you modern men!) and being cheap, will moan when you tip for a service like that.

You did the right thing, owing to the dog being matted and him being awkward.

In the future I'd add an extra $5 as a tip. But because of the way your dog acted and the state he was in, you did a really nice thing and probably made the groomer very happy!

Ignore your boyfriend. Well that's what I do with mine anyway, he's tighter than a mosquito's arse!

What you did was SUPER appropriate, considering how much of a butt your dog was, and how bad of shape he was in. One of my friends got a $50 tip once, because the dog was very large, and was a big mess.

If *I* groomed your dog, you can sure has heck BET that I wouldn't have charged you only $30. I would have added for extra brushing, plus the mats, plus the aggressiveness.

Do your groomer and your dog a favor, brush him so he doesn't get matted.

I think you did right, due to the dog acting up. If the dog had acted normally I would have given a 20% which would have been $6. If it is the owner of the grooming shop and not an employee of another, I might give only $4 or $5.

I think you did right by tipping $10 due to your dogs difficulty and that way they may show him more patience in the future, because you are a good tipper.

I think you did the right thing.

Whenever you are in a position to tip someone, you base it first on the price of the service, and the price is $40. The coupons/special deals don't factor into the tip. So 20% would have been $8.00.

You added some extra because your dog gave them a hard time.

Maybe your bf is a lower tipper, or maybe he was basing his calculations on the discounted price.

But the bottom line is that a tip is a personal thing. If you feel good about it, it was fine,

You did the right thing! Your BF is cheap! They had extra work, and that groomer deserved that tip. Don't forget....a tip is a gratuity! I should know. My Husband is a Professional Waiter at the 2nd highest rated Country Club in the US. Do you know how much he makes per hour by law? Well, It's $2.40 per hour. Do you really think we could live on that? He's good. That's how we survive......on his well deserved tips!
