Grooming My Pomeranian?

Hi. I have a 2 year old male pomeranian named Butter. I've raised him ever since he was 2 months old. When he was a puppy, every month I would take him to the dog spa. When he turned 1, I figured that taking him to the spa was a waste of money, and that I could bathe him myself. So I've been doing that ever since then. Hes a REALLY fluffy dog with a lot of knots. Some behind his back feet (he doesnt enjoy me touching him there), behind his ear (he moves when i try to cut those out which scares me cuz i dont wana cut his skin), and at the end of his back (his top coat there isnt knoted, so I dont want to cut there cuz it would look un even). I try brushing him, but hes just so knotted and fluffy I give up. How do I take those knots out? And another question...after I finish bathing Butter, he and I usually watch tv together, but he takes his potty leakes out there and when he takes his potty, he goes crazy, rolls on the grass, dirt...everywhere and ruins his pretty fur and makes it dirty, stinky, and sticky. Please help with that too...thx!!

Poms and a lot of other long haired dogs are prone to mats which is what you are experiencing. These dogs need to be brushed everyday, not just when they're bathed. You can get him shaved if you want and start from scratch, or you can get a mat spliter (i think that's what they're called) and work with what you have now.
The most common places for mats are behind the ears, where the leg meets body, and the back of the legs where the fur fans out in a way.
