Hi LAF ~

Can you describe where the pain is? Is it on the outside of your leg, near your hip...or more in the pubic area?

I didn't have any bone harvested but I have heard many people say that it is the most painful part of the surgery. Sees to be a fact of life that going to PT can initially make things seem worse. They have a way of finding our weaknesses and then stressing them in an attempt to make them stronger. I guess there is pain before progress....

But I would certainly mention it to the PT.

If they laid you on your stomach for the surgery, it could be the femoral nerve that was "annoyed" during the process...and it can take awhile for it to calm down. Once nerves are disturbed, it takes a LONG time for them to heal.

Are you on something for nerve pain like neurontin or lyrica??

xx M:(M

Ever since my posterior lurabar fusion (Feb 5th 2008) I have been feeling what appears to be a groin or muscle pull right where my thigh meets my hip. Originally right after the surgery since I was pulling myself so much to get on and off the bed I thought it was a strain..Then a month after the surgery when I started to drive again I thought it was from the akward motion straining and pulling myself into the car.

WELL>.........now it's 13 weeks later (tomorrow) and it seems more pronounced than ever...Could this be some kind of nerve damage..this is the same side where they took the bone graft...

I'm now getting quite concerned ???:confused::(:(

Has anyone experienced anything similar?? This is my 2nd week of PT and it seems to be getting worse??:(:(

Upset....Many thanks

i was wondering the same thing here but i have not asked the doctor. From the pubic area th mid thigh it is very nurab and i dont know why. They did not harvest any bone i had donor bone. I guess i will have to let go of my pride and ask. Its just i go to a teaching hospital and like last time i went all i saw was students, I just got aggervated and wanted to leave.

I wish you luck with this!!

First off..Thank you Diet Pepper for responding (since we all know you have been suffering so of late..many thanks)

To everyone else how interesting to hear from so many with the similar symptoms...Some with bone grafts and some without..Which probably means it's simply related to the fusion itself...I guess...weird???

Marlos Mom yes it's in the groin (pubic) area on the inner thigh where the top of the leg meets the hip...What's weird it's the OPPOSITE side from my original pain......Now today I'm getting those weird little creepy crawler feelings on my calves (the backs of my lower legs right above the ankles) Perhaps because they have me doing calf stretches the nerves are waking up??? My Dr. asks me to wean myself off the neurontin and I stop it a few weeks ago...I'm only taking Tylenol extra strenght and when I have a tough day a 1/2 a Darvocet.

How are you doing MM?? Many people have told me that they had a real hurdle at the 3 month mark...Gosh so many hurdles>>>>

Love and prayers to you all...I think we should ALL pat ourselves on the "back"...Don't you think? But not too hard....

I haven't been on any pain meRAB since about the 10th week, but the doc wants me to continue with Lyrica. I really can't assess whether it does anything for me, or not. Half the time I forget to take the 2nd dosage each day....Last time I saw the doc, I promised I would take it faithfully until I saw him next, and then we'd decide whether to continue it, or not.

I don't have any groin pain but I have pain in my thigh, on the front -- it runs from my groin down to my knee, on the inside of my leg. My toes on both feet are still nurab so can't tell if anything new happened there!! Just remeraber, you couldn't walk prior to surgery, and now you can...so there is progress. Nerve pain is the last to heal. So patience...patience.

Luckily the damage caused by my acupuncture treatment last week is wearing off. My PT did an evaluation on Tuesday and is sending it to my doc so he'll have it when I go in tomorrow to find out why my thigh hurts so much. I'll let you know if I find out anything. Doubtful!! I'll get the patience lecture I just gave to you!!!:(

PT stirs up all sorts of new aches and pains. My MIL's surgeon thinks it often causes more problems than it solves, so he has her walking, walking, walking...and stretching., and NO PT...at least for now.

Hang in there, my friend.

This Wednesday will be 3 weeks for me. I have the same feelings. It first started in my right leg. I had to use a walker when I came ome from the hospital. Now it seems to be on the left leg.
I have no idea. This totally is fristrating to me. I wish I never did this surgery. Its interfering with everything and is making me plain out frurstrated and depressed. I also used my meRAB up too early and am feeling withdrawals as I type.
I am 30, 2 kiRAB, and it just sucks.

Just wanted to vent.

So sorry to hear your thigh pain continues and accupunture seems to have made it worse..Like you said I suppose these new pains etc are still les than the excruicating pain we had before.. You too hang in there ..

I did go to a business function last night and was able to stand for 2 1/2 hrs..6 months ago I could only stand 1 minute without crying in pain....

You're right we forget to remeraber our process abeit slow...Last week I read the list of things I wrote down that I couldn't do before surgery and again you're right...We have made progress....It filled up an entire legal pad.

Hope you don't get the same lecture...

LAF, Praise God that is wonderful news. I long for the day I can stand for 2 1/2 hours. You go!! It could not have happened to a nicer person. Thank you for all your worRAB of support.

Make sure PT is aware of it as well as your surgeon. They could have pulled something while positioning you on the table or you have strained muscles that you have not used in the past. In other worRAB, you are using muscles that have not been used as much. Hope this makes sense. I just took my meRAB.

Laf,
how are you doing today? Did you tell your complains to Denise or Dr C.? I have to tell you something which is upsetting to me.
I developed very painful symptoms now at T and C areas (my previous fusions were done at lurabar area) which affects my hanRAB and arms severely: I can sleep, hanRAB are so painful and weak that I can't hold a cup.
I called to the office in March crying from pain and weakness and still nobody gave me an app.? The answer is: he has to see your MRI which was done in the beginning of March.
I am so upset; it's not that I need special attention, but I am in severe pain, I have so much nerve damages, I have Arachnoidities... My PMeRAB don't help with this type pain...
My PT Dr tells me to see him ASAP b/s weakness may progress to a permanent nerve damages and I can't see even PA after all... Very strange.
Before that I had no problems there though.

Do you use their PM DR? I do and I love him; he is absolutely wonderful and carrying. But he is not a surgeon to decide what neeRAB to be done next...

I have to say that nerve pain can heal up to 2 years; I am sure you were told same thing. Ups and downs in recovery after fusions are very common and affects most of us.

I hope you are doing OK and soon you will be out and about - just don't forget your friend in here :)

Best wishes and blessings...

I have same pain same area. My surgeon told me that this could be from harvesting the bone from your hip. It stays for a long time with you, depenRAB on a case.
You tell your PT about it, they have to know what is going on and maybe they will have the answers for you or even be able to help you .

Best of luck to you.

No I haven't called Dr. C's office this week, I usually deal with Theresa but will call next week..The groin pain comesa and goes.

SO SORRY to hear of your latest pain and set back, why can't you get an appt?? No I don't see their pain Dr. there, what's his name..It's easier for me to have appts. here in CT now that surgery is over..It was getting expensive going in and out of city. I wonder why your cervical area is now being affected...Pl fight for an appt. and further testing...hand in there and I wish you a pian free weekend.

Diet Pepper how are you holding up.....Thinking of you everyday with positive thoughts and solutions ahead for you...you have been SO supportive to us all...Good things are ahead for you...

God bless...

Interesting how many of us have it in same area...Moldova...don't forget we both went to HSS and same Dr..... Dr. C..I wonder if they are digging too deep for the graft...It really doesn't feel right and hasn't gotten any better..It's not constant but sometimes worse than others....

How frustrating that things just don't get better....I feel like I hit another road block...So many ups and downs...

Hope you all get better and better too...
