Grindhouse - give it a chance!

It's all bizzarre. Professional critics and from the people who've actually seen it, it have given it very good reviews (77 Metacritic Score; 8.2 on IMDb + #153 on Top 250).

Okay, so the audience is smaller but that would not be the case outside the U.S. Reservoir Dogs was a far bigger hit here in the UK than in America.

I was visiting New York just a week before Grindhouse opened - dammit!
 
It looks we will have to wait a while to see Grindhouse in the UK according to Chud website:

Previously scheduled for June 1, the Brothers have realized that their US strategy spanked nuts, and have decided to regroup and reformulate. With a territory just twice the population of California to market, you'd think a strategy wouldn't be difficult to come up with, but this is the same company that couldn't educate consumers on the fact that they were seeing a double feature in the States."
 
We watched this last night, well, the first movie (Planet Terror).

Obviously it was a download, and not the real thing, but I can't say I was particularly impressed, but it was enjoyable enough. :cool:

IMO, it's been too heavily edited in the old '70's style - at one point when the 'missing reel. Apologies from the theatre management' thing came on, we thought 'oh dear' :rolleyes:, but we stuck with it and it was 'OK'.

When the second movie started, we switched the computer off after 20 minutes - just seemed a bit too..well....shit.

Die hard Tarantino fans will lap it up, no doubt, but I don't think it's for everyone.
 
i also watched a downloaded copy and i really enjoyed it.Sept 21 is a bit too far for a death proof release even if it is cleaned up and has 18+ minutes.Planet Terror is best just being direct to video here in the UK i dont think it would do too well in the cinemas.
 
I watched 'Planet Terror' and have to say it blew me away.

What a movie.

I still haven't watched the second movie yet...but looking forward to it. :)

Anyway..'Planet Terror' was utterly fantastic. It takes the piss out of just about any zombie movie around. The acting was superb. The humour was superb. It was tense, shocking, hilarious...all in one.

You cannot describe a movie that makes you feel just about every emotion that you can have whilst viewing this.

This is what this movie does.; It brings everything out on you. That's why it's so good.


Utterly genius material! A must see. :)
 
I saw this a while ago and I feel bad for you guys. These two movies should definitely be seen back to back. And will the brilliant fake trailers be shown? I hope so.

While your ass will be numb, trust me, it'll be worth it.
Also Death Proof > Planet Terror although i'm in the minority.
 
Unless the films were presented in theatres as a double bill then the point of the project is lost. Now that it seems certain this is not going to happen then I may as wait until DVD and watch them back-to-back... well, the first time around anyhow.

I am sure that Grindhouse would have easily made more money in Europe (possibly even the UK alone) than the US. All very disappointing and, to make matters worse, even bloody longer to wait!
 
Both movies are brilliant, I have to say. Seen em both, and trailers. Werewolf Women of the SS was a rubbish trailer, but 'Don't' was pure Edgar Wright, who may work better without the overrated Simon Pegg.
