Grindhouse - give it a chance!

One of the movies I've been really looking forward to for many months has had a disastrous opening fortnight in the U.S. It doesn't bode well for the two movies to be released outside the U.S. as a double bill. There's an interesting analysis in todays Times (below). Tarantino has always been better appreciated in Europe and especially the UK so it would be a shame if it wasn't released as intended over here instead of being cut into two separate releases.

From The Times:

When a high-profile $100 million movie flops at the box office Hollywood groans. When that movie has been directed by two of the hottest hitters in town, produced by the best in the business, filled with sex, violence and stars, and yet it still flops, then the entire industry panics.

Such is the case for Grindhouse , the new double-feature homage to 1970s exploitation movies, directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. The movie, a three-hour self-aware smorgasbord of genre action, zombies and killer cars, represents the creative apogee of the relationship between its directors and their long-time producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein. (The movie takes its title from the down-at-heel venues that once specialised in sceening B-movies).

Tarantino and Rodriguez are the Weinsteins

Grindhouse was a film that I was really looking forward to watching and the terrible american box office now has the studo considering spliting into two seperate films. I want to see Grindhouse how is was meant to be but they only way it seems I will be able to see it all together is by watching a pirate copy which I dont want to do!

I saw this on Moviehole about the Grindhouse split:

"Grindhouse" has been pulled from its May release slot in Australia and postponed till later in the year - at which time it will be split into two separate movies.

RoaRABhow Film Distributors confirmed this today, in the following email :

In keeping with the theatrical release plans for all territories outside of the US, GRINDHOUSE will now be released as two separate theatrical features:
DEATH PROOF directed by Quentin Tarantino and PLANET TERROR directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Quentin Tarantino

The split release in other countries are several months apart. I wonder what happens to the fake trailers in between the two?

"dumb audience go-ers"

Yeah, and a woman with a machine gun for a leg doesn't look like the dumbest idea ever  Maybe the fact that it just looks completely and utterly stupid is what's putting people off seeing it, eh? I know when i saw the trailer at the cinemas i burst out laughing when that part came on. I get that it's trying ot be nostalgic towarRAB the 70's era of films, but missing reels and botched camera work don't really seem like a good idea in this HD era we now live in.

Personally i think Tarrantino is extremely overrated, Kill Bill 1 & 2 were awful in my opinion.

People on imdb are reporting that it is to be split for international audiences but still not sure if that means us as most people consider international as being ' non english language ' contries.Australia doesnt have a date nomore, their now getting the films separately later in the year.

Yeah I saw that as well so that isnt very good news!
I also saw this on Dark Horizons about the Grindhouse film split:

"Germany is set to get "Grindhouse" in two parts with Death Proof on July 26th and Planet Terror on August 23rd. Much of the rest of Europe will likely happen around the same time."

The movie is dead here in America. I don't think they even run the commercial trailer anymore. :(

But the good news is that it may come out on DVD sooner (most likley 2 separate DVRAB - one for each film).
