Grey Gardens: Why did the two Edies end up poor ?

When they had all those rich relatives such as Jackie O.
I noticed that too.I also noticed that there were cat food cans piled up to the ceiling,many cats and racoons,and a tree growing in the living room.What were they thinking ?
 
I would imagine because they were so stubborn not to leave their home and try and move on to a better place after everything fell apart. I'm sure you noticed that they stopped cleaning and taking care of the place and pretty much just let themselves and everything else go. The mother relied on everyone else to take care of her and pay her bills and made her daughter feel sorry for her in the process and get trapped in her web.
