Grey and Green Ovals on facebook chat...?

I know loosely what they mean
But do they mean that whether you active in Chat on facebook or actively surfing facebook?

Gray is inactive, i.e. not online. green is online. Having used Facebook chat it is probably the World's worst chat program. The status messages mean very little. You can be halfway through a conversation and either get a "Sending" message which means that the program thinks the other party is offline or all of a sudden you get an offline message even though the green dot is there. Stick to MSN/Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo for chatting.
