Yep, Good time to buy is a bad time to sell, sort of the Yin-Yang of the markets. Good luck, you will love either one.
I still keep my 103 Anniversary 103 CVO Road King as the "Winnebago". It's great to go out on a put with the kids on the back or carrying camping gear etc.
 
If I'd of had a CVO I would've kept it too, had a 100th Anniversary 1200 Sporty before the RKC, fast bike for a HD but rear tire liked to come to the front in the rain when I had to ride it alot.
 
I have a Wide Glide, lowered and nothing on it except a motor and handlebars, not exactly the "out of towner" not considering how much harder it is on my body now.

The dealershiips in Houston are sold out of the 1098, they literally cannot keep them on the showroom.

However the main one I have been in contact with has 4 999s all with less than 3,000 miles, all red except for one Fila replica which I'm not at all interested in.

So I'll have to wait until they get the shipment of '09's before I'll be able to judge the 999s against the 1098.

And they have a test ride 999s available, so I can take a spin and see how it feels before it's adjusted specifically for me.

I am 36 years old, have been on streetbikes since I was 15 and have never been so excited in my life.

I'm like a child at Christmas over going to a Duc....Is that strange or what?
 
There won't be more 1098's except the "r" for 2009 (really a 1198) because the '09s will be the 1198. Dealers in other parts of the country have 1098's and 1098S's in stock and will probably be ready to deal on them given the economy and season. Even if shipping ran $500, if you were saving $1500, it could be a sweet deal.

Naw, nothing wrong in the anticipation, it makes the ownership that much more rewarding.

I had owned a couple of Kawasaki motorcycles in the past, but had dreamed of a Ducati for years. I totally understand the few months prior to purchase... Ducati's is all I could think of. I actually have some family who own a Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer ship and I looked at a 1000 gixxer with and excellent deal..... but looking at my avitar, you can see what I went with.
 
To KarlG, first off thanks for your responses, I really appreciate it. To be honest, I am along the train of thought that the 1198 is just a little absurd for a bike of that fashion, the 1098 is pushing it...Just for me at least.

I will probably wind up either buying into a 999s or a pre-owned 1098, as they pop up now and then.

MillerLite, first off...your username is killer

Second of all, I think you made the right decision moving to the Ducati, I owned japanese bikes way back and I just don't think they get near the acclaim that the Ducati gets.

I also think that color combo is cool too

I have really been enjoying this forum, almost makes the premise of buiyng the bike another added bonus

Thanks madman for the complement on my username.... I will let you know I'm not a raging Alcoholic. Miller is my last name and Millerlite was coined by H.S. friends due to the fact I was once a light weight ( 6'0" 135-140 lbs)... which is no longer the case. 928 relates to my birthday and other love my Bianchi 928 (see my gallery). Also your comment: "I owned japanese bikes way back and I just don't think they get near the acclaim that the Ducati gets." ..... so true when I picked my up half way home stopped to buy gas in the truck I was hauling the bike in and some young dude in a really nice new ford f 250 whips out a camera and starts snapping shots. Also at a rest stop some guy is admiring the bike upon my father and me walking back to the truck and he talks to us for 30-45 mins... with lots of complements. Also I really liked the fact that it is a twin and sounds so different than a jap bike. Sometimes none motorcyclist are looking at it wondering why it is loud and deep and not loud and high pitched like a jap bike.
