i love to see the old films and Greer Garson is one of my favorites

i have just sat and watched Mrs Miniver for the umpteenth time and i know it was wartime propaganda but i still sat crying into a box of tissues

am i soft or was it just a bloody good weepy

Yes, I like her as well...
Only saw her in The miver Story, but iut was good, and she is one classic actress.
Would love to see more of her.

6500 posts in 7 months is well done!

I watched it too. I love that 1940s Hollywood idea of England filled with dashing Anglo-Americans and huge period houses with open plan layouts and endless cockney servants who'd lay down their life for the family, wish it was really like that. Greer Garson is very classy in that film: Churchill said the propaganda value of the movie helped to win the war. It also won 6 oscars.

During filming Greer Garson was having an affair with the actor who played her son in Mrs Miniver and they married the following year. She was 14 years older than him. So not old enough to be his mother and not too old to be his wife either. Good for her.

I read an autobiography about her recently, she didn't start in the movies till she was 33 yrs of age and went to university before embarking on a career in the movies.

thats a box of tissues film as well

she was in a film with Cary Grant i think where they adopt a little girl and she dies, i think it was called Penny Seranade but if i am wrong will someone tell me the right film title and actors please

One of my all time favourite films.
Wonderful, touching story which I found well acted.
I have seen this so many times & never tire of it.
Classic.

Yeah, there's definitely a film called Penny Serenade with Cary Grant. It's a real tear jerker. *Sniff*

Greer Garson isn't in it though. It's Irene Dunne.

I got home in time to watch Mrs Miniver - great film and I just love Greer Garson. Have you seen the follow up film, the Miniver Story? TCM often show it.

Random Harvet - best weepy ever!
