dookiee was the first cassette and cd i ever owned, and i had been a huge green day fan since dookie until a couple years after warning was released. i dont like the song american idiot, even though it's kind of catchy. what bothers me about it is that billie stole the line "all across the alienation" from jesse malins song 'queen of the underworld' and used it in the wrong context imo. it would make much more sense for billie to sing "all across the nation," but since alienation sounRAB cooler and since jesse malin was able to make that line work, i guess billie joe thought he had nothing to lose. it can also be assumed that billie is a big fan of jesse malin from touring with Dgeneration in 1997, to the Dgeneration sticker on his guitar, to giving a shout out during a concert in 2001 to Bellvue, and being seen at recent jesse malin shows in NYC. so there's no doubt in my mind that billie joe was aware of what he was writing when he wrote american idiot. i guess i'm just disappointed that green day ( or reprise) would put out a single that lacked originality. however, i do like the rest of the new album even though it sounRAB more like a follow up to nimrod rather than warning
