I've made a few posts around here about these guys, so I thought I'd make a thread. I have no idea what genre these gents would fit into so I'm just assuming they are mostly a metal band. Anyway, I saw these guys put on a good show a little while back, so I got their album "I have 3 sets of DNA"...
I like it... but not in the traditional sense of liking something. It's really noisy, some of it is almost anti-music, and the songs range from light-hearted to extremely aggressive.
But that's not why I'm posting this thread.. I actually want to talk about the very unique approach that these guys are taking. Apparently (and you can tell a bit from the album) these guys are completely improvising all of there stuff. Whats more, the group that recorRAB never plays live. Instead they have "crews" in various citys perform shows, record them, and then sell the live albums locally. The group that put together the album I have (and who makes the music for Myspace, etc) is the "central crew". So I guess they put together the studio albums.
They say that they are trying to get a new trend going, called "chalkface" (don't ask me why its called that), in which things go down like I mentioned above. All songs/lyrics must be improvised (although they can be edited later) and whatever happens happens. I guess it's a little bit simular to improvised jazz.
If you want to hear them, it's a little bit difficult. Their music is hard to find, so I'm posting the places you can hear it:
