Haha, I knew as soon as I saw this thread that Pink Floyd would be all over the place.

We're Only In It For The Money-Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention

What makes Dark Side of The Moon a concept album ? Everybody calls it one yet I don't see any central theme around it , it just seems a random collection of songs to me. To me Primal Scream's Screamadelica has more of a central concept yet nobody ever calls that a concept album.

I'm sure there's a Pink Floyd fanboy around who can put me straight on this :D

dark side of the moon didn't even cross my mind. i guess because each song could possibly stand on it's own! the wal is more like the soundtrack to a musical i think, but it could go either way. oh and if you really love the dark side of the moon and you really like reggae at al, i would suggest an album by the east star all stars called the dub side of the moon. it's the whole pink floyd album re-vamped into a reggae style. the singer can be annoying a couple of times, but it's still a fun concept.

I second this. If you're gonna cite a concept album, go all the way-- its a really bizarre album but it works in its own weird way. Its also got a great variety of mood, textures, many memorable moments and quirky as hell!

I would also add Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here (their best album IMO).

Dark Side of the Moon has some great moments, but overall I feel the album is a bit weak-- I really think its overrated (I say this as a Pink Floyd fan BTW). I would even prefer Animals to RABotM.

I see no mention of The Wall which is fine by me-- probably the poorest Pink Floyd album (there are some individual songs that are GREAT, but the album overall is bloated, confused, and way to self-important). There was a time where that was considered by many to be THE concept album. Ugh.

Sgt. Pepper's is good and Radiohead's OK Computer comes to mind, but I never *listen* to them as concept albums-- its just a good collection of songs.
