What movies from the last decade would you say have been really good and just as good as the book it was originated from?

I think 'the notebook' was a great film and book and did it justice.

What are yours? :)

I think Ringu was as good as the book as was About A Boy. I still haven't read The Virgin Suicides but would like to as I enjoyed the film.

The Godfather

I dislike the long-winded subplots in the book about Johnny Fontane and Lucy Mancini and can see why their stories were so reduced in the film adaption. Apart from that though, it's a good read.

I agree. And apart from the subplots you mention, they did a hell of a job getting nearly all of the book on the screen, IIRC (it's many, many years since I read it).

Technically not a film but Jesus of Nazareth starring Robert Powell was fantastic adaptation of parts of a book called The Bible. Apparently the book has quite a cult following. :D

I didn't think they did a terrible job with 'The Golden Compass'. There were slight things wrong with it, but it wasn't a bad effort. They'd never have manged the other two books though. The third would be unfilmable, I'm sure.

SorryIhave to disagree.

The Bourne Books were excellent and The Bourne Movies are great, but don't make the mistake of thinking one bears any relation to the other, other than basic premise of spy having amnesia!
