After seeing endless debate going on about helmets with some members on this forum, including some just frightening statements:



Anyhow, this is quite an interesting, although long read. And once again, the expensive vs. cheap debate isn't fully answered.

The outcome was Snell 2010 cert. which is now compatible with ECE 2205. IOW, if the major mfgr's wanted, they could now sell helmets certified by DOT/Snell2010/ECE2205 & possibly BSI. The previous snell certs - 05 & 2000 transmitted more force to the inside (meaning your head) to be compatible with any of the other standards.

Initially, IIRC subsequent magazine articles indicated Snell dismissed the article out of hand and refused to accept that anyone else could come up with a better standard. Quietly & without fanfare, they seem to have had a change of heart.

Will an '05 cert lid protect you? Yes, I was wearing a 2005 cert Arai when I took a spill at about 30 mph. I took a solid thump to the helmet, and was otherwise only minorly hurt. That said, I think that generally the snell 2010 cert & ECE are shown to be better standards for your head. JMO...
