Great directors never to win an Oscar

I'm not sure if this thread has been around before, but I thought that it would be quite interesting

Martin Scorsese up to this year, fell into this category, but what other directors haven't won one yet or never won one in their lifetime. The most obvious one is Alfred Hitchcock although Rebecca won an Oscar for best film

Richard Donner - well, at least for The Omen, Superman and the first Lethal Weapon. All classics of their respective genres.

Tony Scott - for sterling work on Top Gun, Crimson Tide and True Romance. Sincerely, great movies! Has done movies just as good as his brother Ridley.

You were right first time, he's been nominated three times (Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive) for an Academy but has always come up short.

Incidentally Kubrick was nominated four times (Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon) without success.
