...2000s? Book one: A couple are missionaries in a tropical location and the husband is killed by a hostile people group. The woman goes back to the US and finds out she is pregnant. She eventually meets another man and they get married. After a decade or so after her 1st husband's death, she finds out her 1st husband is still alive. The book then deals with the emotional and ethical difficulties of which husband she should stay with. She loved her first husband, but now she also loves her second. Both are good Christian men. The first is the biological father, but the second is the father who has always been there for her daughter. A great thought-provoking book that I would love to read again if ANYONE can help me with its title! 
Book 2 (SPOILER to book 1)
Book 1 concludes with husband number one returning to the mission field and the lead female character remains in her life with her new husband and daughter.
Book 2 picks up with this oldest daughter at about 17yrs old being resentful of her life as the "outcast" in there now family of 5 and feeling like the adopted daughter that does not belong. It's very sad since her family loves her and they don't know how to help her. She rebels and gets involved in drinking and partying and ends up in serious trouble when she kills her best friend in a drunk driving accident.
She faces possible jail time and the emotional damage living with the knowledge of the life she has ruined. She and her mom, step dad, and biological dad decide that she should get away for a while and live with her biological dad on the mission field.
If any of this sounds at all familiar to anyone I would love more clues on how I can find these books. I read them at my church library and can only picture the cursive white font on the cover, one might have been green with a shadow of trees in the backround? Maybe a title like "A Second Chance" or something... Refuge? Forgiveness???
