Grants, scholarships, and loans

It's all so confusing. And everything has to do with FAFSA. Which, btw, I don't qualify for. They say my dad makes too much money to qualify for finacial aid even though he's putting two kids through college next year. What am I going to do? There's so much paperwork and I'm not getting any results back telling me whether or not I got any money. I'm getting so frustrated. And I went on fastweb.com to find some help, and most of the deadlines have already elapsed for the ones I qualify for. I really don't want to be paying off loans for the rest of my life. What should I do? Should I get another job or two? I mean, I don't have to pay that much. Only like 10,000 for everything (except the books.) But I can't make that kind of cash over the summer. I'm so screwed. I coulda had my first year paid for if I had just saved up. I feel like the fricken grasshopper right now. I'm so frustrated. It seems like I keep running into brick walls all over the place. I'm so stressed out. Maybe I should just skip college, get married to my bf, and be a mom. I'm too young, but it's looking like the better option right now.

If you can't get any scholarships have you considered taking out a loan, at least for this year? Then next year you can apply for scholarships and grants and shit really early so maybe you'll get some.

Get a second job. Work while you're in school. Take the loans out and do your best to not need them.

When I was in school I'd work 2 or 3 jobs durring the summer. I worked as a night security guard during the semesters.... it's tough but if you really want it go for it.

Don't settle for a life you don't want. Saddly, there's a good chance you and the current BF won't last anyway. (Most relationships that start before 25 don't make it. Nearly all that start before you're 18 don't.)

Yeah, what Ferengi said. Take the loan this year... next year you could possibly get enough money to pay the loans back. They do count as school expenses...

Yeah. I just got a ton of shit from my mom tonight cuz, "You're thinking the wrong way. You shouldn't need to get a loan." bla bla. It's all too stressful. You'd think my family would be supporting me but instead they're making me so depressed. My mom told me that if they didn't have the money to help me pay for college this fall that I'd have to wait a year cuz my sister only has one more year for her bachelor's degree and they're gadda put their money toward her 30,000 a year tuition. I know that if I don't go in the fall I'll never make it. sigh, what am I going to do?

Take the loans. If they can't shell out the cash and you can't get the grants what else can you do?

It's better thank hooking right?

Not neccessarily...

I tried to file the FAFSA as an independent student and they put me through hell. I had to provide all kinds of documentation and shit proving that my parents aren't supporting me, and haven't for the past five years. I filed the FAFSA back in January, and after them fighting me over it for a long time, I finally got my Dependency Appeal approved. Now it's going to take another 7-10 days for them to file the FAFSA correction, and god only knows how long after that before I'll know if I'm getting any grants next year. Total bullshit.

I know I looked into it and they told me that my parents couldn't be claiming me on their taxes for the past year and I would have to have receipts for everything that I bought in that year.

Go to a local community college and get some of your required classes out of the way while your sister is finishing school. Things like english and history should all transfer over, they are easier at community colleges usually and with being at home still you can keep your mind on your studies more instead of on being out on your own and make better grades.

Community colleges are really, really inexpensive.
