Granny's got a gun? Nope, just a red ford escort...

I was driving back from class today on the highway, just cruisin along mindin my own business. I see a little old lady in a red ford escort pull up behind me, and think nothing of it at first. She decides she wants to go around me, so she puts on her blinker, gets into the left lane, and starts to pass me. Well, I guess something changed her mind. She decided she wanted to stay where she was (maybe her exit was coming up?), so she slowed down really quick and got back behind me. Only one TINY problem with that little maneuver: She clipped my rear bumper, making me lose control of my car at 65 mph, and end up in a ditch. When I hit the ditch, my car ended up rolling on its two left wheels for about 5 seconds, nearly rolling over onto the roof, but fell back down onto all 4 at the last second, and eventually came to a stop in the middle of the ditch in the median.

Did grandma stop? Nope.

Was there any damage to my car? THANKFULLY no, except a few minor scratches. She just tapped me barely hard enough to cause me to lose control, overcompensate, and end up in a ditch.

I'm just DAMN lucky my car didn't end up on it's roof, I wouldn't be sitting here posting this right now if it would have. I'd probably be in the ICU.

I can't tell you how many gerriatrics have made attempts on my life while I was in college. They used ignore cross walk lights, run red lights when I had the right of way to cross the street. Just more examples of the man trying to take out Woodreaux.

Two things that might help avoid possible injury in the future:
1)Wear your seatbelt.
2)Front undercarriage machinegun turrets. :D

Some 16 year old girl came to a stop sign, barely tapped the brakes, and whipped a right turn at a crosswalk right in front of me.

She then proceeded to rear-end the car in front of her, which went into the car in front of it, which was at a stoplight.

I laughed and went through the crosswalk.

She was going to stop anyways. What's the point of incurring damage to your vehicle and others?

Young drivers aren't that great either.

Once you become a senior citizen you should be given a choice. Social Security, or your driver's license. Take your pick, fogeys!

First of all that sucks but if a little tap is enough to make you lose control you need to learn how to fucking drive. Maybe you should take some sort of course to teach you how to control your own car. I feel for you and it is fucked up but if you knew how to drive then you could go after her get her plate # or get her to pull over.

Not necessarily how he drives. It doesn't take much lateral force to lose rear end stability.
The maneuver that the old bag executed inadvertently, is one widely used by police to end chases. The rear of your car is much lighter than the front. This being the case, it turns your front wheels into a perfect axis for rotational movement. The force required in order to make a car spin out of control is often not even enough to dent the body panels.

He did mention that he felt he may have over compensated though. But reacting to a sudden change in or situation while driving, is more experience than classroom.

I still say Hunt her down and rob her of her SS check. Anyone can have an accident. But it takes a very special type of worthless piece of shit to leave the poor victim to deal with it alone. She obviously has no regard for anyone but herself.
If he went into the median as he says; that means he was only a few feet from going into the oncoming traffic. What turned out to be a frightening experience, could have been a tragic headline.

Thank you for bringing this to Lord Nutsack's attention before I beat it into his skull... Repped!

It was either try to regain control of my car (which I did by turning the wheel SHARPLY, however when the car went in the other direction I couldn't react quickly enough to straighten the wheel back out), or let the car go in the direction it started to go when I lost control, which would have sent me straight over an embankment and into some houses.
