Grange Hill vs Byker Grove

Yeah Tim Vincent I remember him too, he broke his leg when he was drunk. I've just checked out an episode on youtube and Danny Dyer was also in it and Jane Danson Leanne Battersby from corrie and Maxine Peake who was in shameless among other thing also cropped up

Well Grange Hill of cause has Mr Bronson the teacher who also starred as Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back and Adolf Hitler in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade - one of five occasions on which he portrayed the Fuhrer.

Also Desmond Askew (Richard in grange hill) went on to be in lots of movies.

Grange Hill pre 1990 was utter class. After that it got soft.

Byker Grove was just a load of incomprehensible Geordie's. It also gave us Ant and Dec, which alone is enough to curse its creators names forever and consign the show to the dustbin of history.

Agree with your first part, after Bronson left, GH sort of lost its way. However, Byker Grove took over and the plots were a lot tougher and more interesting, tackling such subjects as racism, car theft( then a huge problem in the North East), drug abuse and unemployment, but also with a lot of Geordie humour.

Of the 2 my favourite was GRange Hill and i rember when i was about the age to be watching they used to show old episodes on a Sunday morning on BBC2 so got to watch alot of the older stuff as well

Yeah maybe I stopped watching it around the time Donna Air left the show, it was good I agree for a while, then maybe it got better but I got too old for it really and stopped watching. It did have some good actors come through its doors.

Oh, this thread brings back memories :) My two favourite shows when I was growing up. Of the two I prefered Byker Grove but I think that's because Grange Hill went on after I'd stopped watching it so I lost the storylines.

Graamge Hill was much better.

The storylines and acting were far superior.

And it's not responsible for Ant 'n Dec.......

It died badly towards the end but even in the late 90s was still very good.

I've always been terrified of paintball, purely based on PJ going blind on Byker Grove!

Loved Grange Hill, Byker Grove and Children's Ward - all right in my era (I'm 29). Liked it when they showed all the Grange Hill episodes form the beginning on Sunday morning kids TV at one point as well, as I got to watch all the really old ones from before my time.

The first episodes I really remember were the Zammo drug addict ones.
