Grange Hill vs Byker Grove

It's mostly rose-tinted glasses from our childhood that rates them so highly, both are generally terrible but were great when we were kids and didn't know better.

I never got into Byker Grove, I was just old enough to realise the acting was beyond awful and so it never gelled with me. I stopped watching Grange Hill around the same time for the same reason.

Never got to experience the highs of these 2 shows due to my age and what not.

So which one was better and what were your personal Highs and Lows of the show?

Thanks for commenting :p

I've never watched Byker Grove and I have series 1 to 5 of Grange Hill. Its a great series and I don't have anything negative to say about it; the characters were great, (Kathy Hargreaves and Tucker Jenkins were my favourites) and the storylines were brilliant.

As the other poster says , Redmond taking over production was the real reason , but in the series there never was a relocation.
Despite the fact that the first 25 years of the show were littered with references to areas in London and things like London buses etc Redmond claimed the show was not set in London but instead in some sort of make believe town so clearly he'd never bothered watching it since the very early days.

Not at all.
I have all 31 years of Grange Hill on dvd , virtually all recorded by myself and I watched them again from start to finish about 12 months ago and it still stands up today .

Series 6 and it's racism storyline along with series 9 and Zammos drugs is just as good now as it was 20+ years ago.

There are lots of kids shows where the rose tinted glasses and watching through the eyes of a child have made the difference all these years later - but GH is not one of them

Do you think that Waterloo Road is similar in that aspect?

Tucker Jenkins/Mark Fowler/Gabriel Kent... lucky Todd Carty expect Dancing on Ice :D

I can barely remember both shows despite watching Grange Hill for a few years.

Val Pollard from Emmerdale and Ant and Dec was in Byker Grove I got told though!

Plus Richard Hillman was in Grange Hill!

I can't say about BykerGrove: I never watched it. I wouldn't want Grange Hill to come back: I heard the later seasons were below par to the first ones. The episodes with Tucker Jenkins and the other characters from the early seasons are unbeatable. :D

I was big fan of them both in my day but struggle to remember them now....

Ant and dec were in byker Grove and i remember when Ant was blinded by the paintballing :(

Cant think of anything from Grange Hill standing out.....:S
