Yes, its free, and this is what the 200 page mod manual boils down to...

1) Open the 360
2) Find out what kind of drive you have (Hitachi, Samsung, BenQ/Philips), and what ROM version.
3) Download the appropriate firmware
4) Connect your 360 to your computer via SATA cable
5) Flash the drive with the appropriate method for your drive
6) ???
7) Profit from $2 games

you have to install a pci SATA card... a specific SATA chipset depending on who manufacturers your xbox dvd-drive

You can get a SATA card from NewEgg for like $20 after shipping. Or you can find one at your local PC store, mod the box, then take it back.
