Grand Designs new series.....

Only just watched this. It was hard to watch even though she was super dignified and the whole programme was very well handled.

Her bravery astounded me because for me she was just leaking pain. Can't imagine what she went through. So glad she had good people around her.

Turned out to be a well worth it project to follow.

"28th October show
Well the meccano house didnt impress me at all . He was a nice man and I liked his drive to make it work and his reasons. But I reallly didnt like the house at all . The idea of the interior walls being movable was in theory a good idea, but I am not sure how practical it would be ,
The wooden grid on the floor would drive me insane !
And in the very end , when Kevin came to see it the time line was wrong .,No way did they just finish the day before ,the whole lanscaping was done outside .

Having been in the building industry for 20 odd years (M&E services design) I think that house was the ugliest pile of cack I've seen in years. The interior, or lack of it, looked like someone had failed to turn an underground car park into a home, the rebuilt derelict barn looked absurd, and the whole point of building a home in that beautiful countryside was wasted becuase you had to go outside and up on the balcony to see it!

Typical architects really - good idea, sound concept but then completely and utterly failed in the execution.

I do know the letter box is external on this house as it had last minute issues being built by the blacksmith.

The house does have a air recovery system for bring air in and and removing stale air to help with this problem. Also the Windows on the south side all open for those hot summer days anyway to allow the hot air to escape. All pretty complicated stuff that was sadly missed from the show.

It was indeed, trouble with his product is unless he builRAB a load of fabrication plants every few miles, you could only ever have one of his houses if there are no railway bridges or narrow lanes etc between his factory and your site. In this respect the Huf House wins because it comes in smaller bits that fit a conventional lorry far easier.

Several of the episodes have just been adverts though - where the home builder/owner is an architect themselves they are totally advertising what their practice can do. I would bet in these cases they actually business expense the whole house too.

Loved last nights episode, far better than the recent ones!! The woman was really nice and so was the whole house :) i just dont like the stairs, and i wouldnt like to have to get up that drive in winter :s

I agree , that grid would also drive me mad, and I would not want to move walls about anyway, surely the whole point of a perfectly designed home is that you are completely happy with the end product.

Imagine the dust, crumbs and hair that would get trapped between the wood and carpet? and changing carpets woudl be a nightmare as it was all tucked down below.
Yet another show home designed to show off someone's work and try to get them orders.

A woman, standing that close to Kevin, and she's not pregnant?

Surely, just knock the wall down and rebuild it again later. For a listed barn there's so little left as to make the listing irrelevant.

I tend to agree, It was an architect's vanity project at the end of the day. I was interested on how the drainage was going to work with it being built in a hole but they didn't explain this.

Hated the house yet again, what is up with these people?? bare concrete walls, bare concrete floor, no heating, wind turbine that uses more power than it makes.

Please, lets just have ordinary homes again, on a grand scale.
