Grand Designs new series.....

Indeed! It's vague because I don't know what exactly the tiles are made of. They will be flat tiles and look somewhat like a slate roof. Could be made of some composite or synthetic materials.
 
Really enjoyed this programme, but have steered clear of the More4 reruns on weeknights cos I don't want to dislike the show like I now do frienRAB.

Looking fwd toa new series on Ch4 too, but I thought I had heard that this year they won't be showing a new one due to the recession???
 
Having not watched the full episode yet, how did she get the staircase through Building Regs if it had no handrails of any kind? Was that mentioned?
 
missed it. Will probably catch it in a few years when repeated.

They are currently doing a recent revisited on More4 I can;t remember what day but its at 7pm.
 
I thought the concept of the build was really clever, but I did find the idea of fitting the carpets very, very odd.

Why would anyone take the risk of damage to their flooring, as frankly a good team of carpet fitters could have done the entire floorspace in a few hours?.

Although a clever idea, it is only novel in that the material of choice was steel, because as we have seen on GD before, a "HUF" house could go up with preinstalled services etc.

I think there was a break in filming over the period Nat was so ill and afterwarRAB, it seemed to say Lucie carried on with the project about 18 months later and of course, for various reasons the plans were revised and scaled down.

Supratad, she did say about those tiles in particular that they wouldn't normally have been her choice. I remember her specifically saying she'd have chosen plain white or a big sheet of stainless steel, but that they were 'so Nat' - she incorporated things into the house so that there'd be some of his personality in it.

Many years ago we did a self build home project while running a new business and bringing up two children under 10. That was hard enough and at the time we had no financial issues and were working together as a couple both offering the other support.
For Lucie to take this project on whilst working and raising two very young children alone, and also having to deal with her grief showed immense strength and fortitude.

I hope she's well and happy and that life is kind to them from here-on in. She certainly made a lovely home for them all.
 
What a mess it was, I quite liked the bungalow, but the heart and soul was ripped out of it and it ended up looking very odd stuck onto the rest of the cowshe.....er house.

Simply horrible.
 
The desgins in this series aren't very grand are they? It looks like the producers decided that in these recession-hit tree-hugging times we want to see what it's like to live in a series of concrete bunkers. Sadly they haven't learnt from the past. What we want is an escape from these recession-hit times with grandiose and hugely expensive projects which we can deride/admire as required.
 
I do the same thing - why do they have to try and create false drama with these things? There's enough 'natural' drama in the building of a property without Kevin shoving his angst-ridden face into the camera and spouting forth his usual doom and gloom nonsense at every opportunity.
