Grand Designs new series.....

Throughout the show I was wondering how they were going to keep it airtight when it had to have some means of entry and exit, airlock perhaps?

Then they just put a normal door in and had big sliding windows

A spider could easily nip inside with those open.

PMSL :D

Agree at one point I thought Kevin was gonna propose. He could have off'd the BF with one push from the balcony.

I generally liked the process and the finished building BUT (and this is me being shallow) where do you watch the telly? Couldn't see any sign of any tech at all.

Sobering episode, but such is life.

The house turned out rather nice though, which is can only be a good thing for them. :)

Next weeks preview looks deliciously teasing. ;)

"Grand Designs" is such an ironically named programme since it really does demonstrate what Darwin was going on about.

No creator could possibly be involved with human beings, just look at this duo creating an Art Deco Gothic-Castle on Water

What science has yet to explain, how did they become wealthy?

I enjoyed the last episode, but do feel they lost their way. I'm currently watching an episode on More 4 from 1999! Kev still has hair  and the wife is not showing signs of pregnancy either... yet! ;)

That was one episode that actually made me angry. :o That old coot had the opportunity to do something a bit special, instead he just built a shack and seemed quite happy to stick his family in it.

Beautifully contrasted by the awful Closer magazine advert during the programme which tried to entice idiots to buy it by spouting off about it's shallow stories of celebrity inanity!

The architecture was superb. I think this is really what architecture is about. That staircase was so simple yet looked fabulous and the views of the interior from it as you moved up were brilliantly executed.
I thought the tiles behind the cooker and some of the furniture was appalling, but thats just my personal taste. It looked great in its surroundings too, not a hint of "look at me" iconic egotecture, just a new type of family home.

Guess everyone was watching The Apprentice tonight and GD's viewing figures will have been demolished ... pun intentional.

I thought it looked nice tonight. That finished guildhall was amazing, imagine bringing frienRAB through in to there when they visit. Yeah I am not sure about the stained glass window either but at least it was quite small. Shame about the planners being so evil, it's not like he wanted to put a stripy purple and blue roof on it, why couldn't he have the reclaimed tiles?

Next week's looks EPIC from the trailer. I am impressed that the series hasn't yet resorted to a previous programme with a five minute "update" tacked on. I am sure there will be several episodes like that to come though.

Was reminded how TV has the power to tug at the emotions. And the fact that she didn't ditch the project, but carried on and STILL let the cameras film. Full respect to her.

I thought last nights house / hall was awful ,So uncomfy not warm or cosy . And he was a pain in the butt .Railroaded over everyone , I didnt know whether to be annoyed at him for being so arrogant or her for allowing him

The weird thing about Building Regs is this requirement to create as airtight a building as possible to prevent heat loss through "gappage" yet at the same time you have to provide adequate ventilation either passive or forced to maintain air quality and prevent mould/condensation problems.
It neeRAB to be airtight for one test at completion, with all the vents closed off, then you open them for the rest of the life of the building.

Its the sort of thing that was achieved by having sash windows and fireplaces.
