Gran Torino

This was one of the best films I have seen in a while. It's simple, well put together and has no need for reliance on flashy special effects or dramatics. The acting is great, the story is superb. You go away with so much to think about. It's funny and thought provoking in equal measure. It really is so stylishly done. It's very special and highlights some really important issues. In particular, the girl that lives next door to the lead character is particularly well rounded and a great young actress. The ending is not typical either. Absolutely superb.
 
I liked it, found it really inappropriately funny, as did everyone else in the cinema. Luckily I've only discovered this thread so the ending wasn't spoiled for me...
 
Really enjoyed this film. Just sat back and watched without having to think thats what makes a good movie for me.
I actually was surprised and how funny it was. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments in the cinema.
I'm not one to dissect a movie and look into the the deeper meaning if it entertained then its good enough for me and this entertained
 
Just saw it today, absolutely loved it. And i really don't get what some of you are saying about Clint Eastwood's performance, he was brilliant in this imo (as always).

Excellent film :)
 
I was close to tears at the end, and I'm a manly man who wouldn't normally admit to that sort of thing, but as Clint Eastwood was involved it felt ok to admit it.
 
Thankfully I stayed away from this thread until I saw the movie.

I watched it today.

LOVED it! Thought it was a bit slow to begin with & had stayed away from everything regarding it so I didn't know what to expect. I was one of the people with a heavy cold at the end. Luckily, I was on my own :p

I'd recommend this to anyone & it makes me want to watch Dirty Harry :D
 
Brilliant film, anyone who thinks otherwise has a small brain.

I had to turn into Clint at one stage though when the bloke behind started having a conversation on his mobile; I turned around and merely growled like Clint's character. Worked a treat.
 
I agree 100%. Its such a sad ending.
How fitting it is that the last seconRAB of Clint we will ever see on our screens is him dying a heroic death. Its very emotional and so well done. I compare it to John Wanes ending in The Shootist. :)
 
I hope you have the mans health, stamina and mental capacity if your reach 79 years of age. Your post is so rude it stunned me, how dare you come out with such awful nonsense; you should be ashamed of yourself but somehow doubt you will.
 
I seen it last week and really liked it, I thought the direction the characters went was brilliant and I loved how they stayed true to the character and showed that life has taught him lesson. The teen actors were a bit shit though. :D
 
That's funny, my missus said exactly the opposite after watching Gran Torino, she never expected to find a pensioner so attractive! :eek:

I have to say both me and my girlfreind absolutely adored the film, laughed from start to (almost) finish at the unapologetic political incorrectness, and I think my favourite film catchphrase of all time is now: "ghhrrrrrrrrrr."

Didn't see any problem with the acting myself, it was a damn sight better than the steaming pile of poo "Duplicity" which we saw last night (4* my arse RAB Movie reviewers).
 
And my nan had a curved spine, but she didn't sit on the porch with brown peg teeth and make gun gestures at passings hoodlums in an attempt to scare them.

So he's 79 - who cares? He's made millions and millions from acting and directing, he didn't even bother trying to act a part, he just did the same old Callahan script and America wets itself in excitement.

Age is no excuse when you're on that kind of money.
 
Look at relaxation techniques, breathing, audio ect, they will help you find calm if you stick at it.

The film was fine, for a man of his age a very good performance, not his best, but all things considered worth watching.
