I saw Gran Torino last night and I loved it. I thought it was superb and I was hooked from begining to end. I didn't think the storyline would go the way it did particularly with Clint's cantancarous (sorry about spelling) character. I didn't see a problem with the acting at all, if anything I thought this added to the realism.
Clint is truly a master of direction and storytelling. I thought the film was extremely well paced. Yes, there were elements of Dirty Harry but believable given the background of the character. Very good 8/10
 
I absolutely hated it.

I thought the kiRAB were terrible actors. Eastwood is on his last legs and still thinks he's Harry Callahan. The sneers and bad temper just don't cut it when you've got a curved spine and walk like you've shit your pants.

I think (hope) that's his last one.
 
I saw this film earlier on today & i thought it was great.I've never been a die hard Eastwood fan but just the opening 10-15mins of the film shows that he has still got that screen presense.

1 thing that does make this film work is the dialogue.For a film that isn't a comedy there was some laugh out loud moments.A classic example of this is when Eastwood goes into the barbers the first time to get his hair cut.Just the dialogue in that scene between him & the barber is priceless.

If this is indeed EastwooRAB last film.Then he has went out on a high.
 
Saw it yesterday. The first surprise was that the cinema was sold out - we got just about the last three seats. The audience was quite mixed, from teens up to quite elderly, and there was a lot of chatter beforehand then dead silence as Eastwood started his misanthropic glaring and growling in the church. Then people began to tune into the film and started laughing... which continued pretty much until the final few minutes, when several people suddenly developed heavy colRAB.

From which I think it's clear that Eastwood is a very accomplished director, he knows exactly how to pace a film to get the audience to work with him and get to where he wants them by the end. It's a very smart, subversive piece of film-making and as the previous poster said, if he never made another film he'd have gone out on a high. But according to imdb he still has at least one film in production as director.
 
I saw a screener of this movie a while back, and loved it.

Clint Eastwood was on top form.

With subtle humour and touching moments, this movie is bound to take you on an emotional journey. Only the hardest of hearts will not feel the urge to shed a tear at times.

This one pays dues to the old school movie, and its a shame that we don't see many of these anymore.
 
I must have the hardest of hearts then,i didn't find it moving at all.

I thought it was a good film,eastwood was reminiscent of the "dirty harry" character throughout the film,but as someone else said the guy is an pensioner now,not in any way frightening or intimidating,and it doesn't come across in the same way anymore.

I felt he was a bit quick to turn from a xenophobe into a kindly old man,age old bitterness would take longer to get rid of.

I'd rate it as one of the better movies of this year.
 
I agree the acting was fairly dodgy on all fronts... But I actually really enjoyed the movie. I certainly underestimated it at first because of its simplicity. All those cheery family-focused scenes, and the growing bond between Walt and the siblings were v. disarming.. Didn't foresee such a jolting conclusion.
 
It really sums it up.

The film is about Walt's character and
his army days how he had to kill and fight in Asia and in the end he died for the future.

It's very good. I think some people don't get this film for what it is but from reviews and critique at least the majority do.
 
I hope that's not a MASSIVE spoiler there? The film's not even out in the UK yet! Have you just given away the ending of the film??? :mad:
