Graffiti 2 and a period

This one is erking me, I can't seem to type a ' . ' (period) when I want to and then often it seems to get stuck in a mode were everytime I touch the screen all I get are periods and then have to wait a few seconds for it to go back to normal. Suggestion appreciated.

It is troublesome. I noticed it was MORE pronounced when I used TealScript with "Screen Write On." Graffiti 2 was actually LESS likely to do it -- it got to the point where I had to make a "space" then backspace, then do the "tap-tap" for period. Also, if going back to edit text, a punctuation of ANY kind was difficult -- it skipped to the end of the line or paragraph! Tealpoint's advice was to make an upstroke like you're going to capitalize something; that seems to clear it. There is a good explanation of the nature of G2 and TealScript Screenwrite on the Tealpoint forum, if you take a look.

I got around it by reassigning (in TealScript) a top left to bottom right "Shift" command and then a tap for period.

If you're sticking with Graffiti 2 I know of no solution, since it can't be tweaked; there is no control in the stock Palm for "delay between taps" to instigate a punctuation "dot," that being a period. At least with T/Scr you can VASTLY alter what does what and when with what delay.

I did find the responsiveness a little faster when just G2 was implemented, however - so it might be a "sensitivity thing" on your digitizer. Normally, I would think G2 would be pretty responsive to single and double taps. The screen on my T3 required a VERY light touch (tap) to initiate anything - I barely had to touch the screen to write characters or punctuation.

There are two things that may affect how Graffiti 2 may respond to your writing. The first is whether you have the "full screen" mode enabled, in which case you can write anywhere without having the bottom "display" panel available. In this mode, when you begin writing, everything you do appears as writing, including any attempt to select other options (menu, applications, etc.). I notice if I turn off full screen mode and use the control area at the bottom for writing it is more responsive immediately.

The second item which affects Graffiti 2, when you have it in full screen mode and decide to select an option on the screen, you need to tap and HOLD a split second for Graffiti 2 to recognize you have "switched" from writing mode. Without the short "Hold" after a tap, it continues to think "Writing" and therefore you get the series of periods that you no longer want.

These delays in changes from writing to selection don't occur when you have disabled the "full screen" mode and are using the dedicated area at the bottom.

In reply to fnagle, if I turn off "write anywhere on-screen" I can't write anywhere at all on the screen, won't take any writing on any part of the screen.

Thanks for your input.

I can't offer any solution other than it takes a bit of practice. Graffitti 1 required two taps for a period, Graffitti 2 requires only one.
I actually preferred G1. It took some getting used to to learn its little tricks, but once mastered was faster to write than G2. I write a lot on my palm so it makes a difference. G2 seems more designed for new users.
