The activation fee is not for the phone. It is for the voice service which is activated with a SIM card regardless as to what phone you use. You should make sure that that you have features to cover usage instead of pay per use.

yeah, completely understand..But the question still remains why I was not informed at the store that this charge will occur.

Look , I am not an expert as you are or many on this board, at&t must know that I am not a professional cell phone costumer, it is a brandnew account and I believe there should be a little help from at&t and let's say this "that customer could have set up the account completely different in order to save him/her at least 40 to 50% money"..I am the little guy here and they are the big corporation ,I am sure it wont hurt them to help me out with a courtesy credit, in fact it would show that this company really cares for their customers..

I don't know if this all this makes sense but honestly , how would you react with ta first bill of over $300 ???

You do not explain what the charges are for. Is it text messages? Web use? They will work with you if call and explain. I have never had a problem with AT&T. They have always worked with me with any problem that I have had. Sometimes being humble with the CSR will go a long way. Good luck.

So far they didn't work with me and the nightmare goes on :

NEW BILL :

Total Amount Due $463.97 ( I start having suicidal thoughts )

Does the stimulus package cover any cell phone expenses for companies like AT&T ???

Please somebody help me !!!

I'm really sorry to hear about your large AT&T bill. In light of your situation, I thought I'd mention a strategy for seriously cutting cell bills that might help. We tend to think of wireless costs as fixed, but you can tinker with your plan to optimize its features to best suit your usage and often generate significant savings in the process. I know this firsthand because I work in the consumer advocacy division of the Houston-based company Validas, where we electronically audit and subsequently reduce the average cell bill by 22 percent through our website, fixmycellbill.com (and I'll add that 22 percent equates to over $450 per year for the average user).

You can find out for free if fixmycellbill.com can modify your plan to better suit your individual needs by going to the website. Check out Validas in the media, most recently on Fox News at myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/consumer/conlaw/lower_cell_phone_bills_072409.

Good luck on retaking control over your AT&T expenses.

this link doesn't point to the exact location !!

Good luck on retaking control over your AT&T expenses.

I dumped them already ...

yes worked, really cool ...

what about if the company will not allow you to do any changes because of past due bills ??

Thats just another strategy to lock the plan and make sure that the consumer will be billed more then he wants ??

I've had this happen before to my past customers when I worked in the industry. The best thing to do is to talk to someone that isn't just an agent. Try advising them that you were misinformed at the store of what you could do and what wasn't free and that you don't entirely understand your service plan. Depending what you've previously told them, they'll take this information and credit you for your overages, but don't let it happen again.

Good luck.
