got a variety problem with my Xp (windows media center edition)?

when ever we install a new program, and then we click on start on task bar we can an indication "new programs installed" only the first click only
but my problem is that this indication doesn't leave at all even though i haven't install anything
i am erected with it
need help....................!
 
Don't be erected ... lol.

1 ) Right click the start button and select properties,
2 ) Under the start menu tab, click on the customize button,
3 ) remove the check mark next to "Highlight newly installed programs" by clicking on it.
4) click OK, then click APPLY.
