Got a new Mongoose bike?

I bought this new Mongoose bike, but it's a mountain bike. Is it okay if I ride it on the road and stuff? I heard BMX bikes are for that.
EDIT: Got it from Academy, I. Not that I think it matters. Can you elaborate?
