not being able to eat at many places, the few that were qualified for decent jobs were denied. they were free to move to northern states though, not sure why anyone stayed

Government tried to FORCE that to not be the case, but human nature, of all races, doesn't agree with it.

Government Social Engineering is wrong and should be stopped. Let people do as they want. Not allowing discrimination to happen is one thing, but government has gone WAY BEYOND leveling the playing field. They are down right intrusive now.
 
Well, a lot of that had to do with northern racism. The fact is, the north didn't want them either.

Private property is private property. If a restaurant owner wants to miss out on all the lavish spending blacks typically do in restaurants, that is their problem.

I agree that the tiny minority of honest and hardworking blacks got totally fucked. That is regrettable and a mistake that will not be repeated

There were also a series of policies in the decades after the war between the states specifically designed to encourage blacks to stay in the south. And today the welfare state greatly discourages black mobility in general.
