Good Vibrations?

Skunk!

New member
Well I'm finally getting comfortable enough to get up to speed on some of the local highways but as I get up to around 50 MPH, I'm noticing some pretty good vibrations going on. I can't tell if it's the engine or maybe the windshield. Being new to street bikes, I'm not sure how much is too much. To me, it's a bit uncomfortable. I'm thinking of maybe trying to raise the windshield a bit. Right now, it's at the lowest setting. Any other ideas/suggestions?

Tire pressure?
Death grip on the bars? (New riders are prone to this)

What shape are your tires in?
Are they not balanced correctly?

Spokes not true?
Check the bolts on Windshield!(do not over tighten)

Walk around the bike checking for any thing that you can notice.
Check with your local dealer!

Good luck.

i got the same bike and mine does the same thing at 70 mph for about a HR my feet go numb asked a dealer and thay told me it was normal

Bikes vibrate. If you didn't grow up using power tools, it can wreak havoc on your nerves. You just have to build some tolerance unless you think something's actually wrong with the bike.

I really can't tell what's up. I raised the windshield but that didn't do much. I'm 6' 2" and the top of it is about at eye level now. It calms down a little once I get up to speed and can keep the throttle level but it just feels like it doesn't want to be much past 50 MPH. Then again, it could be me not used to the high speed vibes yet. I may take a ride to the dealer Saturday and get their opinion.

When I first got my bike when I hit around 55 mph I got a lot of head buffeting. I raised my windshield up all the way and it gained me an extra 10 mph. Since then I've improved my "cruiser crouch" and can run about 70.

I raised mine all the way yesterday. Can't really tell the difference, I still feel a bit of a skull rattle up around 50 MPH. The oil was looking dark brown so, I went ahead and changed it and the oil filter today. Man, she shifts smoother now! It seems it's not as jerky while manuvering around the friction zone too.

I'm going to head to the dealer tomorrow morning and have somebody who is used to these bikes take a ride on it and give me a hypothesis. It could be just something I'm not used to yet. We'll see what happens I guess.:???:

Will the bike do 50 in 4th?
I'm betting it will since my little thumper does.

If what you are feeling is just engine buzz, which almost all bikes have to some degree at some "magic" RPM, then you should notice it around 40-45 in 4th and it will probably disappear around 55, still in 4th.

If the vibration comes on at 50 mph in 5th AND 4th gears, then you have a wheel balance/round problem or something similar......or it's wind buffeting and you haven't found the magic angle/height for the shield yet.

Oh, and if you are feeling that there is a power flat spot about the time you start feeling the vibration, then a dealer visit is definitely in order.

UPDATE: It seems it's just me getting used to speed on the bike. I took it to the dealer and they said it is smooth compared to some other brands with similar models out there. For now, I'll go on feeling like the little engine that could and pull over for the tailgaters. All I need is some time I reckon.
