Good things about a bad animated film

Now one of my friends just recently saw Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, she didnt like it but she did have a few good things to say about the film. Whenever we often look at a certain animated film we either like it or dislike it. And sometimes there are a couple of bad animated films, but however there are a few certain things that make it good. If its the animation, the character design, or even the music or whatever. So what are animated films that in your own opinion are bad, but have a few good things about them?

Cool world is one of them in my book. It wasnt great. But however the animation, the voice acting(Some of it anyway), and the music are the good things about the film.

I was going to list Cool World as well. I had no interest for the story, but the animation I thought was fantastic. Especially near the end of the movie, I go nuts for how well-animated and designed the cartoony Superhero guy is.

I'll admit, there's an amazing 11-minute episode cut up somewhere in the unbearable Aqua Teen Hungerforce Colon Movie Film For Theaters. And it definitely involves that ingenious metal song.

The few good things I could say about 'Cool World' was how sexy Holli looks in her animated form, as well as seeing at Kim Basinger in a slutty dress. The music was kinda cool, but other than that, the film was a disaster. Holli Would will never top Jessica Rabbit, and who knows if Ralph Bakshi's original idea for 'Cool World' would've been better.

Most of Don Bluth's bad movies (Like A troll in central park & We're back) still have very fluid and expressive animation.

Cool World had a original and interesting concept that I am sure could've made a good movie if it had been handled better. Nails was also a very fun character with a nice design.

Take Madagascar for example. The film had some pretty rough and simple CG animation. But on the other hand, acting choices (such as Ben Stiller) and a brilliantly written script, made the movie one ofthe most hilarious and popular films of that year.

As much as I hated Happy Feet, I have to say that the voice actors were very well cast. Not a single mismatch of a voice.

I also have to give Quest for Camelot a few points for I Stand Alone, which was awesome. Seriously, the one good song from that movie.

I didn't like Bug's Life much, but I did like David Hyde Pierce as the walking stick. That was just a hilarious match of voice and character to me. I also liked him as Doctor Doppler in Treasure Planet, which is a film I mostly DO like - except for the main character, oddly enough. Jim Hawkins was kind of a bland generic boy hero, with no real personality, and he brings down the whole film. But everything else about that movie is awesome.

I agree; Jim Hawkins was poorly portrayed. His character song, sung by that Goo Goo Dolls guy, actually made him sound much more interesting than he, the actual character, was!

However, you're forgetting one character who was even worse than Jim: B.E.N. I'm sorry, but Martin Short was just obnoxious in that role, not funny. Dopper, Amelia, Mr. Arrow, Scroop, Morph, and especially Long John Silver were all great characters though.

There are a couple of films that I think are very interesting visually, but mediocre to bad in the story department. Home on the Range had a nice graphic style and was animated well, but the story left me cold. I was totally floored by trailers for The Corpse Bride, but the story felt predictable and not enough of a departure from Nightmare Before Christmas. I really don't like All Dogs Go To Heaven, but there are moments of good or interesting animation.

Has anyone ever come across an animated movie where the writing was great but the animation was subpar? The other way around seems to be a lot more common.

Rock-a-Doodle - weak story, strange and confusing premise, and one-dimensional character development. However, the animation is real nice(especially the opening camera zoom leading to chanticleer), and The Grand Duke is a very enjoyable villain along, w/ Hunch ("ANNILLATION! ABOMINATION!"):p

Quest For Camelot - Nice animation and the songs "Prayer" and "I Stand alone" are pretty good, but everything else is crap.

Troll in Central Park - the characters are expressive, good animation, some of the flowers are kinda cute, and cloris leachman makes a funny villain.

Thief and the Cobbler (arabian knight cut) - watch it on MUTE. Admire the animation that took decades to accomplish.

Fantasia 2000 - Great segments, but the movie wouldve been more sophisticated w/out the celebrity cameos.

A good thing about most bad animated films is they'll be over. If you look at Star Wars the Clone Wars a good thing about that boring mess was the animation, sure it was stiff but it was solid too, much more solid than the prequels CGI and it didn't use that terribly fake blur effect that you see in every Dreamworks film.

The Sword in the Stone is the weakest Disney feature from the Walt-era, but the entire "squirrel segment" is wonderfull, being both funny, romantic and sad.
