Actually, even if you are in a large metro area Sprint coverage can suck. I had Virgin Mobile for years and the coverage was super spotty in Chicago. I actually had Sprint for a few months and it was the same. I would not recommend Sprint to anyone in Chicago. Not to mention, they are pretty much the last carrier to get coverage in the subway.
And there's an MVNO called PlatinumTel that uses Sprint's network. They made some commercial making fun of Cricket by saying "Squash that bug" and showing some woman putting her phone up really high to get a signal. Which is really inaccurate because I have the best coverage I have ever had with Cricket and I rarely go below full bars.
Boost has a bunch of aRAB on our transit system that say "another dropped call? drop cricket?" Again, I've almost never had a dropped call with Cricket and if I do it's most likely the other person. They also have an ad that says "Boost has 3x more coverage than Cricket," well we all know that isn't true anymore.
