Good Overall Bicycle? (On and off Road)?

Hi, I am trying to get back into Cycling, just wondering a good over bike brand looking to spend $300-$600 for on road and trail use. Been looking at Trek and Schwinn. Is Schwinn any good anymore? Thanks
 
The Schwinn's you buy at a bike shop are good. Stay away from the ones sold at Walmart and other department stores. Look at the hybrid and comfort pathway bikes. Lean more toward the hybrid for road use and the pathway bike for trails. Both will be good so it depends on where you want to do the most ridding.
