I received injections Sat and Sunday of Buprenorphine ( .5 mg each time ). It did NOT have any Naloxone in the injections. Since then, I have NOT HAD any withdrawal symptoms nor have I had cravings for my regular monthly pain meRAB, ( MS Contin 3 x time and percocet 4x a day ). Is this going to LAST or am I going to all of a sudden crash and then crave the meRAB or go through WD's ?. I would love to think I would never crave another narcotic pain med again as I am trying to wean off the meRAB for a while or as long as I can anyway.
Any one have any info on Buprenorphine injections and how long they last ?

Hi Kat,

I've been on Suboxone for over 10 months now and can say with confidence that I "have not" had one thought of using, nor any cravings. I didn't have much faith in Sub, but decided to give it a try. It was the best decision I've made in all my 33 years.

Hope this helps,
emsmom

If your like me, you'll be adddicted to the sub as well in a matter of no time at all. My dilema now is Suboxone w/d, which I understand is much worse than other opiates. Good luck.

I had a friend who is a MD and she suggested I try the injections of the buprenorphine last weekend as I did not have my medications with me ( long story--won't go there ). She was just trying to help me avoid the withdrawals. She gave me 1/2 ml am and pm both Sat and Sunday to get me through. ( One injection IV and the other 3 IM ).. Well, since then I haven't WANTED anything at all--I would LOVE to continue not craving anything at all... When I have tried to cut back on my own I suffered Withdrawals and cravings . I am just hoping this continues :). I am weaning myself down as I have to have surgery in the future and it is in my best interest to cut down on my pain meRAB so my post surgical care will be better.
I have been a little "snotty and ill " but no withdrawals and no major cravings. I have felt WORSE when I was trying to cut back. I have meRAB at my disposal, just no desire to take. I guess when the major WD's kick in I will take 75% of what I was taking and ease off now that it has started so easily

I'd suggest only taking the pills if you get any unbearable withdrawal. It's amazing what our bodies can handle once we take the "fear of the unknown" away. My using lasted far too long, simply because I was afraid of the withdrawal.

So, don't assume you'll take 75% of what you were taking before, cause you may be taking way more than you need. The Suboxone certainly has given you the advantage here. I'm not saying you should suffer through any withdrawal, but try pushing forward - keep busy, very busy and don't sit around waiting for "what if?"

You have a very good attitude regarding your upcoming surgery. You are right - cutting down on your pain meRAB now, will definitely help your post surgical care. How soon is your surgery? Do you have a date yet? If it is very soon, I wish you lots of luck!

Keep in touch :)

I haven't had an injection or any opiates at all since late Sunday afternoon . I ahve no cravings or Wd symptoms at alll. I have been taking opiates for over 3 years, after being on a long acting plus short acting for almost 2 years. I wonder how long this will last or should I expect WD to start or cravings.

I need to schedule it ( shoulder arthroscopy ) and I didn't want to schedule until I had a handle on my meRAB. My PM Doc said the surgeon would handle the post op pain and then I would go back to regular monthly PM treatment. I know reg surgeons and Doctors don't prescribe NEAR what PM give. This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for me. By leaving my overnight bag at home, I was forced to face this demon that has turned out to be a friend. I am just surprised the injections have lasted but it could be mind over matter as well. No diarrhea, no nausea, sweats or anything. The injections didn't contain ANY Naloxone so if I took pain meRAB I would feel

Expect withdrawal as well as cravings. Definitely be vigilante. If you expect to feel at least a little bit then it won't be a shock to you, should it happen. What's the worst that could happen - you don't get any withdrawal or cravings? I'd say that's a pretty good deal :)

Are you planning to stay on Suboxone long-term, or was it just to help you get off the MS Contin and percocet?

Keep posting. Write down how you're feeling, both physically and emotionally. Read the replies to your thread. The more suggestions and recommendations you get, the more educated you are. And, later you'll have something to look back on - and see how far you've come :)
