Good news for 2008 price plan in Canada

Basicly, the governement will allow new carriers on the market, allow them to have their own network instead of renting the existing ones. They expect videotron to set up their own network and also expect price drops with a new competitor. They say that when videotron entered the market, plan prices fell by as much as 50%.

Lol not really, also i don't think videotron would set their new network anytime soon since they certainly have an agreement for a set period of time with rogers. We will see...more competition is better of course but imo 3 were ''fighting'' already and there was no price war at all.

"Industry Canada will have bidding in Q1 2008 about giving new wireless licenses. These frequency will give the opportunity to existing provider to increase their network, or to new provider, like Videotron, to build their own netowrk (They are currently using the rogers' network).

According to Luc Lavoie, the coming of a new provider in a market dominated by Bell, Telus and Rogers would announced a price drop that would profit users. ( According to Luc Lavoie? I know that since 3 years lol )

The pricing won't be affect at all if Videotron takes the licenses, 'cause they are also landline providers. The best thing Canada could have is a new wireless provider that would NOT distribute any landline services

My 2 cents

Thanks Sn1p3r for the translation (your english is better then me), Only think to do it wait and see. Like said Einherjer "more competition is better"

Hey Guys,

There was talks a couple of years back that T-Mobile wanted to come in to Canada. They were eventually backed out because the CRTC wanted to make sure that they would charge close to the same amount of money that existing carrier were charging for the respective service. As you already know with T-Mobile you can get unlimited (and that means unlimited) data for 20 - 30 dollars a month. Since they could not price their services as low as they desired they backed out.

So don't look for prices to drop drastically even if there is a new carrier in the neighbourhood. Canadian wireless users pay the second or third lowest for the services they receive compared to other countries that use wireless networks for voice and data services. Hence another reason for prices not to drop.
