I was in a car accident in May 2008, (which caused my injuries).. after the accident I did physical therapy for 6 months, and it did nothing to help, I was actually getting worse. So, I had an Discogram and it came back positive at level L5 S1... My doctor decided to try the IDET procedure--It worked temporarily; but the pain came back. So, In January I had a PLIF at L5 S1. Immediately after surgery I was in horrible pain. I feel I have a really high tollerance to pain. It was pretty horrible for the first 2-3 months. Then slowly but surely I've been getting better. I do have some nerve damage on my upper thigh--but the back pain has went down sooo much! I started physical therapy 4 months post op .. which helps soo much! I went for my 7 month check up and I am actually almost totally fused!! I was in shock when I was told this because everyone I spoke to said that it would take 9 months-1 year to fuse.. some people take longer.
I still get sore at night or during the morning and I am no where near where I want to be.. but the progress I've made is truely amazing! I don't regret getting the surgery at all. (I sure did contemplate that in the first 3 months LOL). I thought I would share this good bit of news with ya'll since alot of what I read is negative or people with problems.. I just keep pushing along, walking, and doing physical therapy... that's all that I can do!
I hope everyone else is doing as good as I am!
