Good mobile phone and provider as I'm not too happy with Verizon?

I'm on Verizon and they're not giving me a great reason to stay since my plan I believe is mediocre at best. I'm also tired of signing multiple year contracts with these providers so they have me locked in and don't have to do any kind of improvement. Not only that, but I believe these providers are charging more than they need by far. I'm going to be happy to not spend $55 a month when my contract is up in 2 weeks.

I've heard that the Nexus phone is going to be really good, but after moving to a house and not having any kind of paid TV service (had comcast, happy to be done with them) makes me wonder why I really need a mobile phone.
I've also heard too many not so wonderful things about the iphone to want to spend alot of money and buy one.

I would suggest t-mobile, they have a month-by-month plan that requires no contract and are actually cheaper than contract plans. Downside? You don't get a discount on your phone. If you can live with paying full price for a phone (the nexus 1 is over 500 bucks, my moto cliq would've been over 300) then that's the plan for you. Also, if you go that route, get a phone with wifi and when you get your t.v. service get an internet package and a wireless router installed. With a 16-32GB microSD card and wifi enabled, you can opt not to pay your bill and you've got an android version of an ipod touch (as an ipod touch is just an iphone with no phone parts or service) and since most phones come with a 3.5mm jack you can use them as mp3 players as well as browsing and whatnot without having a phone bill. Not a bad concept huh?

I have a moto cliq and when my contract is up I'm going to drop down to this type of service. That way if I go broke for a month i can at least still use the internet (moto blur runs on internet, no phone service, so i can still use it) which will give me the android marketplace, news rss feeds, my motoblur, etc and you can even get textplus (an app that sends texts for free over wifi) so really the only thing the phone doesn't do is call.

Best bang for you buck as long as you don't mind paying full price for a smartphone.
