Good free Usenet servers?

The ipv6 has been working, all 3 are working for me at the moment. xsnews was down for several days but has started working again.
Did you check your IP address whatismyipv6.net ?
If that looks fine, then tracert news.ipv6.eweka.nl to see if/where there is a network issue.

Hi there freealta, thanks for the answer.

Here's what, when I get to http://whatismyipv6.net/ it's told me that I'm currently on a IPv4 connection

That's really confusing since I have a Hurricane tunnel currently on and running with my own IP, the exact same way as I used to get access to those Usenet servers

What's the matter?

90+% of them servers will be text only and read only servers. The few you will find that have binaries will only carry a very limited few groups and usually none of the bigger more popular ones like a.b.movies.divx and the like. Speeds will suck and completion will as well. The only good free servers out there are the couple ipv6 testing servers and those will only last for a limited time.

So the ipv6 free servers are a temporary testing ground? How long do we expect them to be up? I'm considering Astra v. the free ipv6 ones.

open your newsreader paste this> news.ipv6.eweka.nl,choose 8 connections and thats it.i tried that server before 2 months and it was ok(only the retention was low~100days and many corrupted files but not bad for free)

For IPv6:

Signup for IPv6: http://go6.net/

You will get a username and password, and a server to use, you OWN specific one.

Next, download the Gateway6 client, to create your tunnel for IPv6.

Then grab http://www.sabnzbd.org/ SABnzbd+, the only pure IPv6 compatiable NG grabber....don't believe, try connecting with other clients.

You must have IPv6 enabled and a tunnel created to use those NG servers...there's my answer, if you can't figure it out, well then more speed for me. IPv6 free servers are really great, just as could as the pay-for newsservers, minus the retention, but 100 days, well just grab new and hot stuff with it, after all that's what the tunnel is about so you can't be tracked, right :)

If you are successful in setting IPv6, the Turtle at the top of this page will flap it's wings.
http://www.kame.net/

I'm on Comcast and when I go to http://go6.net/ in Opera (9.64), it says I'm using IPv6.

If I go there in Firefox (3.0.9), it says I'm using IPv4... ditto at http://www.kame.net/

Note that this was before I installed the Gateway6 Client.

NewsBin Pro supports IPv6 in the current version.

Well, I found out why it's not working.

My ISP simply blocked port 119 from one day to another without telling anyone and they've already stated that's a permanent set.

DAMN!!

Days, weeks, months. Who knows pretty much when they decide to pull them down. Thats the problem with the free servers or testing servers they never last.

Good evenning gentlemen.

People, I'm kinda lost here!

All the usenet servers that used to work for me seem to be down since the beginning of August, all at once. I'm wondering if that's my ISP blocking access to Usenet (maybe locking port 119?) so I'd like to know if there's a way to find out if that's occuring or not.

The Usenet servers that I'm trying to access are Eweka, Newszilla & XS News - all of them through IPv6, of course. GrabIt! gets stucked and reports that it was unable to connect to 127.0.0.1 (Connection closed gracefully)

Keeping in mind that everything used to work like a charm, what am I supposed to do now?

Best Regards.
Bart

Yeah, I see. Do you know if there are any free servers that offer SSL?

I would like to make a test before signing up a paid service.

Many providers give you free trials, alternatively just get a small block account for a few dollars from blocknews or somewhere with SSL accounts and try it that way.
