good curling iron....?

i have long straight hair and i want to find a good curling iron that will give me curls such as these:

i have a good flat iron(sometimes i use it to curl my hair) but it doesnt give me curls like these.

*also*
when you use hairspray do you kinda spray directly at your hair or do you kinda spray around your head and shake your head a little bit like how they do it in the movies?
