Hi I'm looking for a good camera as I'm starting a photography course soon, I've got around £600 to spend. I will be using it for many different things so I need it to be very versatile! Makes and models etc will be helpful, cheers!

£600 will get you quite a bit. Ask if you're allowed to shoot digital. If you can then these semi pro kits are good.

Used semi-pro/prosumer cameras will be your best option.
Canon 40D + 17-85mm IS lens.
Canon 30D + 17-85mm IS lens, 50mm f1.8, Canon 430 EX flashgun
Canon 30D + 17-85mm IS lens, Canon 50mm f2.8 macro.
Canon 30D body, Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 EX Macro lens, that's a pro standard lens.
If you're really lucky you may be able to pick up a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 EX DC lens, this is also pretty professional level portait setup.

If you're not allowed to use digital, then consider:
If you're only allowed primarily manual only: Nikon F3, Nikkor 200mm f2.8 lens, 50mm f1.4, 35mm, posibly a Micro Nikkor of some type.
If you are allowed to shoot automatic film cameras: Nikon F5, F80, F90, Canon EOS600, EOS 3, EOS 1-N, EOS 5, EOS 30/EOS7, EOS 50. Get a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lens.
