Good/Bad Deal? Used Lexus 2000 RX 300 w/ 200,000 miles for $1,000?

My dad's coworker of 15 years recently decided he should sell off 3 of the 5 cars they own. I lowballed him and said $1,000. He said fine (he really wanted to get rid of it I suppose... is this bad or is he just lazy?)

Currently I drive a 98 Ford Expedition. I drive from my apartment to the train station (3 miles) Mon-Thursday. On occasion I'll drive to the cape or to New Hampshire.

It seems like a nobrainer. I should save $1,000 over a given year but I am very interested to see what you auto nuts have to say.
 
if he kept it in good condition, just keep in mind it has 200000 although these vehicle last a life time ill treating them can leave a hole in your pocket. good luck.
