...many veggie dishes as well? I have been here for 4 days now, seems like they are all tourist traps, I don't believe locals pay 8 Lira for a very fatty oily kebab. I have never yet seen good veggies dishes that they brag about in books nor any Mantu. I have seen just kebabs, corn, pretzels, ice-cream, eggplant, cheese stuff.. anywhere where is not so expensive and locals eat? Thanks!

Istanbul is a big city so it's impossible that all restaurants you have been was all tourist traps. If you have Turkish friends or family, ask them for a nice authentic meal or find a friends relative who has a restaurant where you can taste different dishes. Sorry but it's hard to believe that you are in Istanbul now and you ask Y/A for restaurants. It's like being in Malibu and asking Y/A for the shopping strips.
