good and bad remakes and sequels

I didn't like the first Pirates film much, because I didn't like the Orlando Bloom character. I thought the whole thing was pretty mediocre except where rescued by Johnny Depp. I preferred the second and third films, although they were very dense so you really had to pay attention.
 
Good sequels/remakes

1. Godfather Part 2
2. Terminator 2
3. King Kong (most recent version)

Three of the greatest films ever made!


(...And the first and last Pirates of the Caribbean films are pretty good. ;))
 
Interesting thread, I've just started a thread about a proposed remake of My Fair Lady so this is right up my street.

Good Remakes
Planet of the Apes
Good sequels
Empire Strikes Back - if only for the, "I am your Father" line (I can still recall my 12 year old jaw dropping and the collective intake of breath of the entire cinema when this little gem was revealed!)
Bad Remakes
Too many, but a few that spring to mind are Cape Fear, Psycho and Hairspray
Bad Sequels
Again too many but some I could single out are Attack of the Clones (not strictly a sequel, but you know what I mean), Shrek 3, all of the Halloween sequels.......I could go on all day
 
Good:
Terminator 2 (better than first)
Godfather 2
Toy Story 2
Bad:
Shrek 3
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ( really like the other 3 but this didnt excite me)

Dont know why they bother with remakes , they allways seem to make a total balls of it. Assault on Precint 13 , Get Carter & Confidence being prime examples of cheap & lazy 'film making'. Sequels can be dire as well , FX2 is a good one that actually improves on the first.

I love the Star Wars prequels, they get to much stick , they could never live up to the hype & tbh they are good fun to watch , so the scripts are a bit iffy & George Lucas's direction is limp , but hey they are still a good way to pass two hours.

La Cage Aux Follies 2 is another that could never live up to its predesesor.

The Wizard Of Oz (it had already been filmed in the 20's)
The Man Who Knew Too Much 1956 (Hitchcock remakes one of his own from 1934)
Young Frankenstein (Does this count??) if not then Moulin Rouge

Bad, Bad remakes...
The Ladykillers (the Coen bros lost all credibility butchering this one)
Psycho, WHY?
The Avengers (dunno if this counts either as its a remake of a TV series but it was a shocker )
