good and bad remakes and sequels

Bad ones...
1. Shrek 3 --- awful. Ruined the first film which was such a sucess
2. Daddy Daycamp. --- now that is laughable.
3. The Butterfly Effect 2 --- one of the worst remakes I've ever seen. In the same was as 'daddy daycamp'.. they think they can somehow make a sequal without the main character. Ridiculous. And this film missed almost every twist and message that the first film did so well.

Good ones...
1. Freaky Friday --- I hate LinRABay Lohan but I prefered the remake of this film to the original.
2. Pirates Of The Caribbean --- the 3rd one especially is very, very good.
3. Charlie And The Chocolate Factory --- Again, I prefered the remake, but I guess thats down to Johnny Depp and his portrayl of Willy Wonka. That was some amazing characterisation. But of course, the film wouldn't have been half as good without him.

Good ones

back to the future

Star trek up to Insurrection

Planet of the apes I like them all

Superman movies

The Time Machine I like both

Not so good

The land before time
I only like the first one.
Are they ever going to stop making these?

The 28 weeks later movie

The birRAB 2009
I know the new ones not out yet but I bet it wont be as good.

Tremors
I like 1 and 2 but not so much 3 and 4.

The Fog
I only like the old one

If I think of any more I will post then.

Good
John Carpenter's The Thing
Evil Dead 2
French Connection 2

Bad ( so many films, so little space ) :p
The Italian Job
The Ladykillers
Get Carter

( and anything John Carpenter's done before...
Assault on precinct 13/ Halloween/ The Fog )

I'm sorry did the 2nd poster in this thread say that the third Pirates of the Caribbean film was the best?

I'm sorry to mirror the spirit of Mark Kermode here but.... POTC (and that includes the first one) is the worst film franchise ever! EVER! They had no plot..... no story.... and they starred Orlando Bloom..... Ingredients for disaster.

If only that happened in the POTC films...... Preferably by one of those awful CGI sea monsters. Now that would have made the movies great for me.

Remakes - Bad:

Godzilla. (The US version obviously)
King Kong.
Assault on Precinct 13

Remakes - Good:
Oceans 11
Italian Job (well I enjoyed it, so ner)
err... can't think of much else...

Universal asked Gus Van Sant to remake Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. He took them literally. He used Hitchcock's shooting script (with a few minor updates by the original writer, Joseph Stefano), he used Hitchcock's storyboarRAB and the DVD of the original was always on set for reference purposes.

It would have been a much more interesting project if he had made his own version of Psycho with a nre script based on Robert Bloch's novel.

Sometimes, the remake can become a classic. How many realise that the 1941 version of The Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart is actually a remake?

The first one was brilliant, saw it 4 times at the cinema. Even took my mum to see it, and she loved it too. Was nice to have an entertaining movie that I felt comfortable taking my mum to the cinema to watch.

Bad remakes

Pyscho(Vince Vaugh as Norman Bates:eek:. I tell thee)
Black Christmas(Original is genuinely one of the creepiest films I have ever seen. The remake is laughable)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween(Decent film but cannot touch the original so why bother)

As for bad sequels, well, most of them have been covered on here but Halloween 3 has to be mentioned. Take the first two films which popularised the slasher genre of films, remove the central characters of the series and premise of these films and stick in a mad scientish character obsessed with witchcraft and bore everyone to tears for a hour and a half.

Good sequels
Godfather 2
All the Evil Dead Sequels
Empire Strikes Back

good remakes

Ben Hur ( Charlton Heston's was 2nd version)
Last of the Mohicons
King Kong (2005 version)

bad remakes

King Kong (1976 version)
Highlander II - The Quickening
Get Carter

GOOD REMAKES

1/ The Amytiville Horror
2/ The Hills Have Eyes
3/ The Fly
4/ Gone In 60 SeconRAB (though tbh never seen the original)
5/ The Thing

BAD REMAKES (BLOODY AWFUL)

1/ Halloween
2/ The Wicker Man
3/ The Fog
4/ Psycho
5/ Texas Chainsaw Massacre

GOOD SEQUELS

1/ The Omen 2 and 3
2/ Indiana Jones Temple Of Doom/ Crystal Skull
3/ The Blair Witch 2 (miles better than the stupid first one)
