Gone With The Wind returns to West End

Apparently a new musical stage version of the classic film is to hit the West End next April. Rhett has not yet been cast, so am wondering who will get to sing the immortal line "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn".

i cant even start to imagine who will play Rhett Butler....Clark Gable WAS (and in my opinion always will be) Rhett!!

Would definitely be interested in seeing it though..whether I could convince Mr G would be another matter! He struggled to sit through the movie with me, if the musical would be as long I could see there being an issue!! :p

I suppose the burning question will be, as it was back in the 1930s, who will play Scarlett O'Hara? I will be looking forward to the burning of Atlanta, and to seeing Scarlett come running out of the flames singing "I'll never be hungry again". They don't make them like that anymore.

This landmark new musical is directed by Trevor Nunn, who was so closely involved with Cats and Les Miserables. Rumour has it that Hugh Jackman and Jill Paice will play the leading roles, but Ashley Wilkes is still uncast.

It will be interesting to watch Jill Paice returning home from the burning of Atlanta and start singing, "I'll lie, I'll cheat,I'll steal. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again".Unusual lyrics but will make a change. Trevor Nunn is reported to be following the book rather than the film, so the play should end with Rhett's immortal lines rather than Scarlett's rantings.
